And now i will dissect a new LP from one of heroes of days past and now.. present. With the right fruit flavored lube this Disc sent me rocketing into orgasms i thought were unknown.
Tesco Vee and the Meatmen have rocked the punk rock o rama for decades, and now the bees in the bonnet of the human race have dug deep into the innards of punk days past and present to bring you a scorching LP that is as solid as War of the Superbikes , Rock N Roll Juggernaut, and other gems from the back catalog. The difference in this record from old Meatmen work ? Some songs are more catchy than ever . But it’s more like an oi anthem catchy or sing along punk song . Remember when you heard 7 seconds or the Descendents for the first time ? That kind of catchy , however It’s still got that old school punk riffage indicative of young Midwest and DC punks who are coming of age with their musical skills. Think of all the punk and hardcore circa early 80’s . How the old school players played with urgency and aggression ( that has been watered down in the Hot Topic generation) and you got an idea of some of the tracks on SAVAGE SAGAS sound. A few tracks mix that old punk sound with tightness that any hairbag from the late 80’s would be envious of. In other words they can still shred and give you the immediacy of punk rock.
Combine the urgency of the punk , the tightness of your favorite thrash bands and Tesco’s trademark angry troubador -ism and you got a classic LP for the ages.
I’ll take you through some of the tracks.. opening with Men of Meat you get the newest anthem that defines who the fuck these guys are. A short and sweet number with a great video. Perfect punk blast ending in a classic rock /blues progression , not any less appropriate than bloody boogers on a wall .. Sagas launches into ” Dinosaur " An autobiographical piece about Dutch Hercules himself.
If track 3 don’t make you want to circle pit and chicken fight on some crust punk’s shoulders then you are probably one of those dontardos from ” What’s this Shit called Love”
Death Rig 9000 conjures up the more metal side of Meatmen, Palm mute heaven and Superbikes storytelling. Anna Moose and Kill Kunt Koulter are 2 politically charged quick little ditties to keep you ADD generation’s interest.
The Ballad of Stinky Penis, could definitely open a new Western series starring the Meatmen. I’d rather see that than have to watch Back to the Future 3 anyday. For the Dwarves fans we have a song for them. I sense some rivalry .
There is something for everyone !
"They just don’t make ‘em anymore" is a tribute to the bands past ,(a few are still around) and the fucking chorus was stuck in my head for days. After listening to this song I have to admit i was a little sad and it rings true. It’s my opinion they really don’t make em like that anymore, if so very far and few between like people who don’t annoy me.
